Preparation and properties of tris(trimethylsilyl)thallium

Tris(trimethylsilyl)thallium has been prepared in 60% yield by the exchange between trimethylthallium and bis-(trimethylsilyl)mercury. The reactions with hydrogen halides, hydrogen cyanide, and methanol have been studied. With chloroform, bis(trimethylsilyl)thallium chloride is formed.
