The structure and configuration of the textile and clothing supply chains are changed in many parts of the world in response to the global manufacturing scenario. Significantly, the time based performance of the entities has emerged as a strong competitive option in the higher-end market segments. Based on the new situation, a case study is developed here for measuring the elements of time for the various activities of a supply chain which operates in South Europe. Benefits Management is a field of growing interest in the universe of University-Industry collaborative partnerships. Therefore, this paper aims to present and discuss a review on benefits and success factors that were previously identified in the literature through two distinct methods of categorization in order to qualify and better understand how each benefit and success factor act and what are their intrinsic properties. Throughout these methods, the next goal is to perform a cause-effect analysis to understand which factors generate which benefits and make some theoretical assumptions based on these correlations. This study will display that there are important underlying conceptual issues in benefits categorization and will suggest, accordingly, an approach to surpass it in order to contribute to further research in benefits management.

This paper resulted from an action-research undertaken on a Portuguese electric energy organization – EDP Distribution. The research aimed to develop, propose and implement a risk management methodology to integrate in the project management (PM) practices of an ongoing project. The methodology implemented allowed the project team to initiate systematized risk management practices through a simple structure, easy to apply, and with a degree of complexity compatible with the effort that the PM team could initially engage. It is expected that the proposed methodology signaled the initiation of the project risk management (PRM) process standardization in the EDP Distribution organization.
The Portuguese Project Management Observatory (PPMO) aims to promote and give credibility to Project Management and support professionals and organizations whose activity is developed in this area. This initiative is focused on developing and disseminating scientific knowledge in the context of project management, contributing to improving good project management organizational practices. Business process-driven management is critical for organizations, allowing them to improve their processes and, consequently, improve their organizational performance, given that this management capacity directly influences the value of products and/or services that the organization makes available to the final customer. The PPMO, to better fulfill its mission, intends to adopt a business process-driven management based on a BPM Life Cycle approach. This study reports the process and results achieved during the four phases of that approach.
The methodology of project management has been widespread in organizations of different functions and sizes. In this context, we address the issue of optimal resource allocation, and more specifically, the analysis of complementarity of resources (primary resource and supportive resource) in a project. We develop a conceptual system capable of determining the ideal timing, and the ideal mixture of resources allocated to the activities of a project, such that the project is completed on time, if not earlier, with minimal cost. In this paper we present new computational results of a Genetic Algorithm, based in a random keys alphabet to optimize the process to reach better results.

Earned Value Management (EVM) and Project Risk Management are normally considered separately in Project Management. Referring PMBoK®, EVM is part of Project Time Management and Project Cost Management knowledge areas, while Project Risk Management is a different knowledge area with no apparent relation with the previous ones, although the fundamentals of EVM are fully influenced by risk management. This paper seeks to clarify the mechanisms of this relation, and in which points they meet or affect each other. The interconnection between the two methods was explored in this study and a framework of integration between them was proposed. The framework was implemented in Excel resulting in a set of tools that can be useful in monitoring and controlling a project.

To support the assessment of R&D project portfolios and to establish a systemic model to carry multiple evaluations using the decision-maker knowledge, preferences and purposes we have developed an evaluation matrix and a new procedure based on the PROV exponential decision method which uses multiple utility functions modeled to establish a common framework from which we can determine the projects relative value. The presentation of this new procedure is the main focus of this article and numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed approaches to attain comprehensible results and to discover the most valuable R&D projects to support investment decisions.

The implementation of project management best practices is a preponderant factor for the success of companies. Organizations need to respond quickly, efficiently and in an integrated way to the challenges emerging from daily routines. This paper focuses on presenting a solution for the implementation of project management initiatives in an Engineering and Construction company, which was at an embryonic stage of project management maturity. The company aimed at improving its project management maturity level, in order to increase the likelihood of success of its projects. Six project management improvement initiatives in which the company should focus its efforts were identified, considering its organizational context, through four research methods: survey, document analysis, observation and focus groups. Three dimensions were considered for the development of this proposal: People and Organizational Knowledge; Processes, Tools and Techniques and General Management System.
This paper presents an application developed to visualize and edit Activity-On-Arc (AoA) project networks. It is part of a larger project that has the goal to study the resource allocation problem in stochastic multimodal activity networks. This application was developed in Java programming language and uses the open source libraries JGraph and JGrapht. It enables one to visualize and edit AoA networks with multiple resources, and save them into one of the two types of files available (TXT or XML).
