Hummam Shaheen is a Syrian PhD candidate in Urban Planning at Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon, focusing on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks. He contributes to the BIOFIN-EU project, assessing tools for Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and Ecosystem Services (ES), aligning financial planning with environmental strategies to support biodiversity in urban contexts. With over eight years of experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Hummam has worked with the FAO and Action Against Hunger (AAH) in Syria, managing M&E systems, leading data collection, analyzing program outcomes, and supporting infrastructure and early recovery projects. His work has helped improve accountability and effectiveness in humanitarian response efforts. He holds an MSc in Management of Information Technologies in Construction from Damascus University and a BSc in Civil Engineering from Al-Baath University, where he developed Syria’s first university-level earthquake simulation model. Fluent in Arabic and English, Hummam is proficient in KOBO Collect, R, and data visualization tools. Passionate about research, planning, and social impact, he aims to bridge data and policy to support sustainable development and vulnerable communities worldwide.
