The metathesis reaction between CdCl 2 ·2H 2 O and sodium oxalate in n ‐hexanol under solvothermal conditions yields a hybrid compound of formula Cd 2 (C 2 O 4 ) 0.5 Cl 3 NaCl·4H 2 O. It consists of one‐dimensional chains formed by Cd and Cl atoms, containing μ 2 (Cl) and μ 3 (Cl) bridges, and cross‐linked by oxalate units to give a layered structure. The Na + ions and water molecules occupy the interlamellar spaces. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2003)
