The period of internal peace that the province of San Juan managed to achieve in 1836, after the assumption as governor of Nazario Benavides could be sustained until his assassination in 1858.Without a doubt, Benavides, federal governor, had known how to compose the interests of the Argentine Confederation with those of the local elite which had a strong unitary influence.However, after the Battle of Caseros and the consequent fall of Juan Manuel de Rosas, it gradually altered the political objectives of the Confederation.
