Gestaltbildung in Wasser: Pd-Nanokristalle mit gezielt einstellbaren Formen werden durch Reduktion eines Pd-Salzes mit Zitronensäure in wässriger Lösung erhalten. Ursache für die bevorzugte Bildung von Oktaedern, Ikosaedern oder Dekaedern (siehe Bild) ist die starke Bindung der Zitronensäure an die {111}-Flächen von Pd. Die Nanokristallform kann einfach über den Anteil von Na2PdCl4 und Zitronensäure im Reaktionsgemisch gesteuert werden.
