Einfache Kontrolle: Kleine Pd- und Au-Nanokristalle verändern ihre Größe und/oder Form, wenn ihre wässrigen Lösungen mit einem weniger polaren Lösungsmittel (z. B. Aceton oder Tetrahydrofuran) versetzt werden. Es findet Partikelkoaleszenz statt, die durch den abrupten Rückgang der Kolloidstabilität beim teilweisen Austausch des Lösungsmittels ausgelöst wird.
