We report a 53-year-old male with leiomyoma in the bottom of the tongue. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging suggested a benign tumor localized in the oropharynx. The patient underwent extirpation of the tumor by a cervical approach. Since the surgery, he has been followed up for six months and to date there is no sign of recurrence.Histopathological and immunohistological studies revealed the tumor to be a vascular leiomyoma. Vascular leiomyoma in the head and neck region is a rare disease. This is the first report of vascular leiomyoma arising underneath the tongue, according to a critical review of the world literature up to 1997.
