Abstract The enantioselective reaction of diethylzinc (II) with the benzaldehydes (I), yielding the alcohols (III), is catalyzed by polymer‐bound chiral amino alcohols.
Discharge lamps can be classified as high-pressure and low-pressure lamps, which operate under different scientific principles. They have exhibited the well-known fingerprints of memristors. This paper describes the mathematical models of both of high- and low-pressure discharge lamps based on their respective physical nature and behaviors, and then explains how these models can be unified into a generalized mathematical framework that confirms their memristor characteristics. Practical and theoretical results from high-pressure and low-pressure lamps are included to illustrate their 3 fingerprints of the memristor characteristics. The results indicate that gas discharge lamps are not ideal but volatile memristors.
Abstract Decades of electrophysiological research on top–down control converge on the role of the lateral frontal cortex in facilitating attention to behaviorally relevant external inputs. However, the involvement of frontal cortex in the top–down control of attention directed to the external versus internal environment remains poorly understood. To address this, we recorded intracranial electrocorticography while subjects directed their attention externally to tones and responded to infrequent target tones, or internally to their own thoughts while ignoring the tones. Our analyses focused on frontal and temporal cortices. We first computed the target effect, as indexed by the difference in high frequency activity (70–150 Hz) between target and standard tones. Importantly, we then compared the target effect between external and internal attention, reflecting a top–down attentional effect elicited by task demands, in each region of interest. Both frontal and temporal cortices showed target effects during external and internal attention, suggesting this effect is present irrespective of attention states. However, only the frontal cortex showed an enhanced target effect during external relative to internal attention. These findings provide electrophysiological evidence for top–down attentional modulation in the lateral frontal cortex, revealing preferential engagement with external attention.
In this paper a master-slave synchronization scheme for Lur'e systems is investigated, which consists of vector field modulation by means of the message signal. Using a full state error feedback mechanism and formulating the synchronization problem within the standard plant framework of modern control theory, it is shown how the original message can be recovered for a class of binary-valued continuous time reference inputs or message signals. Input/output properties of the synchronization scheme are analyzed using the system-theoretical approach of dissipativity with a quadratic storage function and a supply rate of finite L 2 -gain. The feedback matrix is designed such that the influence of the exogenous input on a tracking error is minimized, corresponding to a so-called nonlinear H ∞ synchronization scheme. Channel noise is taken into account in the design. The method is illustrated on Chua's circuit and an n-double scroll circuit.
We report the time-resolved light emission measurement of a nanoscale electrically-injected III-V light emitting diode coupled to a metal antenna. Spontaneous emission lifetime decreases from 1.6 ns to 250 ps with an antenna.
Unruly NO more: The synthesis of [RuCl2(NO)2(THF)] has been achieved by the reaction of [{(cymene)RuCl2}2] with NO in THF. In the presence of a chelating L2-type ligand [RuCl2(NO)2(THF)] binds alkenes to its nitrosyl nitrogen atoms (see scheme). Reproducing bugs is hard. Deterministic replay systems address this problem by providing a high-fidelity replica of an original program run that can be repeatedly executed to zero-in on bugs. Unfortunately, existing replay systems for multiprocessor programs fall short. These systems either incur high overheads, rely on non-standard multiprocessor hardware, or fail to reliably reproduce executions. Their primary stumbling block is data races -- a source of nondeterminism that must be captured if executions are to be faithfully reproduced.
