Dual‐Pore Mesoporous Carbon@Silica Composite Core–Shell Nanospheres for Multidrug Delivery

Abstract Monodispersed mesoporous phenolic polymer nanospheres with uniform diameters were prepared and used as the core for the further growth of core–shell mesoporous nanorattles. The hierarchical mesoporous nanospheres have a uniform diameter of 200 nm and dual‐ordered mesopores of 3.1 and 5.8 nm. The hierarchical mesostructure and amphiphilicity of the hydrophobic carbon cores and hydrophilic silica shells lead to distinct benefits in multidrug combination therapy with cisplatin and paclitaxel for the treatment of human ovarian cancer, even drug‐resistant strains.

Enzymeless Electrocatalytic Detection of Uric Acid Using Polydopamine/Polypyrrole Copolymeric film

Abstract Uric acid is mainly produced from metabolism of purine nucleotide in human body and have several medical importance in human system. It is therefore very imperative to develop a sensitive and accurate method of its detection. This study aimed to develop uric acid biosensor based on polydopamine/polypyrole (PDA/PPY) composite decorated on glassy carbon electrode. The conductive polymer PDA/PPY was electrochemically synthesized and casted on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The synthesized PDA/PPY was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, energy dispersive x‐ray spectroscopy and x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. PDA/PPY/GCE showed good response towards uric acid with low limit of detection (0.1 μM, S/N =3), good linearity (0.5‐40 μM) and high sensitivity (2.1 μAμMcm −2 ). It was also found to have stable response for uric acid unaffected by common interferents. Also, when used for uric acid detection in human serum and urine, it showed a good recovery of 90–110%. The developed PDA/PPY composite is proposed as a promising biosensor for uric acid for human health protection.

rGO–diaminobutane surfaces with optimized N doping and hydrodynamics as dual proton–electron conductors and carbon photocatalysts

A reduced graphene oxide–diaminobutane (rGO–DAB) organic hybrid revealed excellent N doping, flexible interlayer distance, and light-harvesting property to support optimized photocatalytic activity for water splitting and dye degradation.

Theoretical Computations on the Pyrolysis of Alkyl (dithio)acetates

The pyrolysis of methyl alkyl esters I to III and dithioesters IV to VI were theoretically calculated. All possible pyrolysis paths were considered. Both esters and dithioesters presented three potential paths via six-, four- and five-membered ring transition states, respectively. The calculation processes were calculated using MP2/6-31G(d) set. In-depth theoretical analyses were also presented, including NBO related analyses, synchronicities, and charge distributions, to reveal the detailed pyrolysis process.

Metal–Organic Framework Enhances Aggregation-Induced Fluorescence of Chlortetracycline and the Application for Detection

The development of an analytical method for selective and sensitive detection of chlortetracycline (CTC), an often overused broad spectrum antibiotic, is important and challenging in environmental and health monitoring. This paper reports a zinc based metal-organic framework of pyromellitic acid (Zn-BTEC), which has been found to greatly enhance the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) of chlortetracycline. The unique emission response of CTC on Zn-BTEC has been extensively examined and applied for the sensitive detection of CTC on the basis of fluorescence intensity of AIE, and a limit of detection (LOD) was estimated to be 28 nM. A rational mechanism has been proposed based on the porous structure of Zn-BTEC, and the CTC molecules would defuse into the rigid MOF structure and assemble or aggregate, leading to fluorescence enhancement of CTC. Interestingly, the Zn-BTEC materials could discriminate CTC from other TC antibiotics with high selectivity. We have further demonstrated that the Zn-BTEC materials are successfully applied for the sensitive and selective determination of CTC in real samples of fish and urine.

<i>N</i>-[(9-Ethyl-9<i>H</i>-carbazol-3-yl)methylidene]-3,4-dimethylisoxazol-5-amine

The azomethine double bond in the title Schiff base, C(20)H(19)N(3)O, has an E configuration. The 13-membered carbazolyl fused ring system [r.m.s. deviation = 0.023 (9) Å] is nearly coplanar with the five-membered pyrazole ring [r.m.s. deviation = 0.003 (4) Å]; the dihedral angle between the two systems is 10.8 (2)°. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin having a 35% minor component.

In Situ Derived CoB Nanoarray: A High‐Efficiency and Durable 3D Bifunctional Electrocatalyst for Overall Alkaline Water Splitting

The development of efficient bifunctional catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of extreme importance for future renewable energy systems. This Communication reports the recent finding that room-temperature treatment of CoO nanowire array on Ti mesh by NaBH₄ in alkaline media leads to in situ development of CoB nanoparticles on nanowire surface. The resulting self-supported CoB@CoO nanoarray behaves as a 3D bifunctional electrocatalyst with high activity and durability for both HER (<17% current density degradation after 20 h electrolysis) and OER (<14% current density degradation after 20 h electrolysis) with the need of the overpotentials of 102 and 290 mV to drive 50 mA cm^-2 in 1.0 m KOH, respectively. Moreover, its two-electrode alkaline water electrolyzer also shows remarkably high durability and only demands a cell voltage of 1.67 V to deliver 50 mA cm^-2 water-splitting current with a current density retention of 81% after 20 h electrolysis. This work provides a promising methodology for the designing and fabricating of metal-boride based nanoarray as a high-active water-splitting catalyst electrode for applications.

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Particles and Beads: A Survey of Modern Synthetic Techniques

Molecular imprinting technology is based on incorporating template molecules in the polymer matrix, followed by their extraction to leave specific cavities similar in shape and size to the incorporated template molecules. The resultant molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) then show antibody-like and enzyme-like behavior. MIPs are used as selective adsorbents, stationary phases, sensors, drug delivery agents, ultrafiltration systems, catalysts, etc. To achieve a specific function, MIPs are synthesized in various forms like beads, particles, membranes, fibers and composites. MIP beads and particles have prime importance due to their use in multiple applications. In this article, we present a survey of various polymerization techniques used for the synthesis of MIP beads and particles, along with a special focus on the studies presenting their use in separation and purification.

Detection and Monitoring of Toxic Chemical at Ultra Trace Level by Utilizing Doped Nanomaterial

Composite nanoparticles were synthesized by eco-friendly hydrothermal process and characterized by different spectroscopic techniques. All the spectroscopic techniques suggested the synthesis of well crystalline optically active composite nanoparticles with average diameter of ∼ 30 nm. The synthesized nanoparticles were applied for the development of chemical sensor which was fabricated by coating the nanoparticles on silver electrode for the recognition of phthalimide using simple I-V technique. The developed sensor exhibited high sensitivity (1.7361 µA.mM(-1).cm(-2)), lower detection limit (8.0 µM) and long range of detection (77.0 µM to 0.38 M). Further the resistances of composite nanoparticles based sensor was found to be 2.7 MΩ which change from 2.7 to 1.7 with change in phthalimide concentration. The major advantages of the designed sensor over existing sensors are its simple technique, low cost, lower detection limit, high sensitivity and long range of detection. It can detect phthalimide even at trace level and sense over wide range of concentrations. Therefore the composite nanoparticals would be a better choice for the fabrication of phthalimide chemical sensor and would be time and cost substituted implement for environmental safety.

Awareness of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus among General Population in Abha, KSA

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)), or lupus, is an autoimmune disease in which a person's immune system attacks various organs or cells of the body, causing damage and dysfunction. It is one of the worldwide autoimmune disorder that has a significant mortality and morbidity. Objective: The current study aims to assess knowledge regarding SLE among the general population in Abha city, Aseer region, KSA. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study was used. Sample: A total of 405 individuals were selected using a simple sampling technique. Selected participant was interviewed using a questionnaire which consisted of many parts dealing with all aspects of SLE (risk factors, diagnosis, management, and prognosis). Data were entered and analyzed by using SPSS. Relevant statistical tests were used according and considered significant if values were less than 5% Results: A total of 405 individuals were involved in this study. Age ranged between 18-55 years, 58% were females. More than one third ( 39.3%) had good knowledge of SLE particularly general and treatment aspects (54%,42%) respectively. The higher knowledge level about SLE was Found among younger participants (below 35 years) than among older (46.9% vs. 30.3%) with statistical significance (P<0.05) which is clearly showed in our results Conclusion and recommendations: This study revealed that the knowledge about SLE among participants was inadequate particularly among less educated, there are so many misconceptions about essential information of these serious diseases which need public health education using different methods including new social media. The comprehensive national study is suggested to explore the knowledge about SLE

Physico‐Chemical Investigations of Mixed Micelles of Cationic Gemini and Conventional Surfactants: a Conductometric Study

Abstract The interaction of cationic gemini and cationic conventional surfactants by conductivity was systematically overviewed, paying attention to synergism observed in micellization. These mixed systems were found to show remarkable synergism in micelle formation. The experimental critical micelle concentration values being lower than the value predicted by ideal solution theory indicate that the mixed micellization is due to attractive interaction between the two components. Gemini/conventional systems form mixed micelle due to attractive interactions (negative β values). The values of micellar mole fraction of constituent 1 ( X 1 ) in surfactant mixtures are more than in the ideal state ( X 1 ideal ), which means that, the mixed micelles are rich in conventional surfactants in comparison to that in the ideal state.
