HgSe and Hg0.5Cd0.5Se quantum dos (QDs) are synthesized at room temperature by a novel liquid–liquid interface method and their photodetection properties in the near-IR region are investigated. The photodetection properties of our Te-free systems are found to be comparable to those of the previously reported high performance QD vis-IR detectors including HgTe. The present synthesis indicates the cost-effectiveness of selenium based IR detectors owing to the abundance and lower toxicity of selenium compared to tellurium.
Titanium oxide lattice parameter changes in 390 to 470 K range studied by X ray crystallography, noting correlation of distension with resistivity changes
This contribution reports on the observation of a strong light localization of Anderson type in 1D systems consisting of ship-shaped carbon nanotubes. Such a localization of infrared (IR) light was observed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy under attenuated total reflection geometry within the spectral range of 2-20 µm. Such an IR light localization manifests itself in the form of a significant interference profile of the optical transmission over the full wavenumber range of 400-4000cm-1.

An entry from the Cambridge Structural Database, the world’s repository for small molecule crystal structures. The entry contains experimental data from a crystal diffraction study. The deposited dataset for this entry is freely available from the CCDC and typically includes 3D coordinates, cell parameters, space group, experimental conditions and quality measures.
Oxides of the formula La3 LnBaCu5O13+δ (Ln = Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, or Y) exhibiting metallic resistivity have been prepared and characterized. In the case of yttrium, a composition close to La2Y2BaCu5O13+δ, which is also metallic, could be prepared.

Rare earth ortho-chromites, -manganites and -ferrites are p-type semiconductors with conductivities in the range 10−4–10−1 ohm−1 cm−1. The conductivity in each series of perovskites decreases with the increasing atomic number of the rare earth. The ionic contribution to conductivity is small in all the three series of solids. None of these solids exhibits intrinsic behavior up to ∼1000°C. The conductivity behaviors of these rare earth compounds reflect the known crystallographic, dielectric and magnetic transitions in these materials. Seebeck coefficients in these compounds are large, typical of narrow-band materials; the Seebeck coefficients show marked changes at temperatures where magnetic and dielectric transitions occur. The electrical transport properties of all the three series of rare earth compounds are essentially controlled by the d-electrons of the transition elements which show localized behavior. This conclusion is in agreement with the results from optical spectra and the predictions of Goodenough. In all these compounds small polarons seem to be responsible for the conduction.
