La{sub 1{minus}x}Sr{sub x}CoO{sub 3} (LSCO) and La{sub 1{minus}x}Ca{sub x}MnO{sub 3} (LCMO) are a class of magnetic oxides exhibiting the colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) effect. However, the CMR ratio of LSCO is much lower than that of LCMO. Microstructure studies were carried out to understand this difference. In La{sub 0.5}Sr{sub 0.5}CoO{sub 3} (LSCO), an ordered, anisotropic perovskite-type structure n-LSCO was observed. The ordered structure has a tetragonal cell with a La-Co-Sr-Co- [001] layered atom distribution along the c-axis. This new structure is intrinsic for the LSCO system and is a direct result of the lattice substitution between La and Sr. The entire film is composed of [001], [010] and [100] anisotropic domains with sizes on the order of 30--200 nm. The La{sub 0.7}Ca{sub 0.3}MnO{sub 3} (LCMO) film, however, does not exhibit a domain structure. It is concluded that the domain structure may have negative effect on the CMR ratio.
Abstract Background: Breast cancer is notorious for its increasing incidence for decades. Ascending evidence has demonstrated that translocase of inner mitochondrial membrane (TIMM) proteins play vital roles in progression of several types of human cancer. However, the biological behaviors and molecular mechanisms of TIMM8A in breast cancer remain not fully illustrated. Methods: Pan-cancer analysis was firstly performed for TIMM8A’s expression and prognosis by Oncomine database. Subsequently, TIMM8A-related noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) were identified by a series of bioinformatics analyses and dual-luciferase reporter assay, including expression analysis, correlation analysis, and survival analysis. Moreover, the effect of TIMM8A on breast cancer proliferation and apoptosis was evaluated in vitro by CCK-8 assays, colony formation assays and Western blot assays and the in vivo effect was revealed through a patient-derived xenograft mouse model. Results: We found that TIMM8A showed higher expression level in breast cancer and the higher TIMM8A mRNA expression group had a poorer prognosis than the lower TIMM8A group. hsa-circ-0107314/hsa-circ-0021867/hsa-circ-0122013 might be the three most potential upstream circRNAs of hsa-miR-34c-5p/hsa-miR-449a-TIMM8A axis in breast cancer. TIMM8A promotes proliferation of breast cancer cells in vitro and tumor growth in vivo. Conclusion: Our results confirmed that ncRNAs-mediated upregulation of TIMM8A correlated with poor prognosis and act as an oncogene in breast cancer.
A gold-and-indium dual-activation-foil-based Bonner sphere system (BSS) for neutron spectral measurements was investigated. A customized polyethylene holder was designed to simultaneously accommodate one indium foil and one gold foil placed orthogonally to each other. The holder, which fits into the center of a Bonner sphere, resembles a standard 6LiI(Eu) detector. The response of the dual-activation-foil-based system was calculated using the MCNPX code with different activation cross-section libraries (ACTL and ENDF/VI for gold foils and ACTL and 532DOS2 for indium foils). To verify and correct the calculated response functions, measurements were performed using 252Cf and AmBe neutron sources of known strengths. Working response functions were determined for neutrons with energies ranging from thermal to 20 MeV by applying correction factors from measurements in well-characterized beams to the Monte Carlo–calculated response functions. Measured data were successfully unfolded with the corrected response functions and found to be in good agreement with the known spectra.
