Ahmer Wadee

Graduated from Imperial College London with a first class honours BEng degree in Civil Engineering in 1994. Also awarded Bingham Cotterell Undergraduate Prize for the final year project. Remained at Imperial to study for the MSc in Structural Steel Design. Funded by a UK Steel Construction Institute Bursary. Graduated in 1995, obtaining a mark of Distinction and was ranked first in the cohort. Subsequently went to the University of Bath to study for a PhD under the supervision of Professor Giles Hunt on the topic of “Localized buckling in sandwich structures” within the Department of Mechanical Engineering; graduated in 1998. After PhD completion, worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Officer from 1998–9 at Bath in the multidisciplinary “Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics”. The project involved collaboration with both the Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics Departments. Appointed to Lectureship in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial in September 1999; promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2007, to Reader in Nonlinear Mechanics in 2011 and to Professor of Nonlinear Mechanics in 2015. Primary research interests are: Developing analytical models for nonlinear buckling phenomena in metallic and composite structural components. Listed as one of the 100 leading practising scientists in the UK by the Science Council in 2014
