The notion of dynamic or organizational capability has received much attention in the strategy, organizational and entrepreneurship literatures. However, there are wildly divergent opinions about the nature of capabilities, and particularly their origins. The purpose of this proposed panel symposium is to bring scholars together to discuss and debate the nature and origins of capabilities. The four panelists will offer (short) statements about the nature and origins of capabilities, linking up with recent work. A short, moderated discussion will follow the presentations. Our goal is to ensure that the session is both provocative and engaging, but also oriented toward practical research questions about the nature and origins of capabilities. Ample time will be left for interaction with the audience.
