Vibrational spectroscopy is applied to study the solid modifications of thermotropic liquid crystalline molecules with different structures. Especially we deal with polymorphs and glasses formed by thermal processing of mesogenes from the groups of azomethines, alkyloxybenzoates and 4-substituted benzoic acids. The formation and the structure, as well as the temperature behaviour and the phase transitions of the observed solid states are discussed.
