Synthesis methodology, acidity and catalytic behaviour of the 18 × 10 member ring pores ITQ-33 zeolite

A new zeolite (ITQ-33) with 18-MR pores connected by 10-MR was synthesized by using a flexible organic structure directing agent (OSDA) and high-throughput (HT) synthesis techniques under very unusual conditions. The role of pore diameter on zeolite acid strength is discussed by comparing the 18-MR pore (ITQ-33) with a 12-MR pore (ITQ-17) zeolite, with the same framework composition. Finally, catalytic properties of ITQ-33 for reactant molecules of different sizes are presented and compared with 12-MR (Beta) zeolite
