Mesoscopic hollow spheres of ceramic materials whose interior surfaces were functionalized by nanoscopic objects were generated by templating sol−gel precursors against three-dimensional arrays of polystyrene beads whose surfaces had been derivatized with submonolayers of the nanoscopic objects.
