Value creation is the engine of the firm. However, the value creation process is fraught with uncertainty – sometimes political, sometimes environmental, sometimes in the exchanges associated with stakeholders, and sometimes with the very outcomes of the process itself. As organizational scholars begin to realize the importance of uncertainty in the process of value creation, the engagement of economic, social, and political stakeholders that share in the uncertainty and help to navigate it becomes critical. At this interface of firms, stakeholders, and uncertainty the question arises: how do organizations effectively engage stakeholders in a co-creation process and navigate that uncertainty? The purpose of this symposium is to bring together leading scholars in stakeholder theory to explore stakeholder engagement in the context of uncertainty.
