Reducing Transient Disconnectivity using Anomaly- Cognizant Forwarding

It is well known that BGP convergence can cause widespread temporary losses of connectivity resulting from inconsistent routing state. In this report, we present Anomaly-Cognizant Forwarding (ACF) - a novel technique for protecting end-to-end packet delivery during periods of convergence. Our preliminary evaluation demonstrates that ACF succeeds in eliminating nearly all transient disconnection after a link failure without the use of precomputed backup routes or altering the dynamics of BGP.
