The introduction of K+ ions selectively at the borders of an octahedral sheet of sepiolite changes dramatically the stability and regenerability of the crystalline structure of natural sepiolite. The channel structure of the material remains unaffected after treating the sample at temperatures higher than 600°C at 10−2 Torr. The adsorption properties and the potential catalytic use of this new material are very promising.
