Reaction of (Me5C5)2Yb(OEt2) with Co2(CO)8 in toluene, followed by recrystallization from Et2O-tetrahydrofuran(thf)-pentane, gives (Me5C5)2YbCo(CO)4(thf), in which the Co(CO)4 fragment is bonded to the (Me5C5)2-Yb(thf) unit via a carbonyl group.
