This paper presents a new Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique, entitled as 'pentagonal space vector approach' for five phase concentrated open-end winding induction motor. The concentrated winding machine enables the utilization of the third harmonic component. The proposed PWM technique helps to enhance the 3rd harmonic voltage component along with the fundamental in the inverter output voltage. The effect of the variation in the 3rd harmonic injection for conventional approach and proposed pentagonal approach has also been discussed in the given manuscript. Further, the utilization of the DC bus has also been emphasized by using open-end winding. In order to use a single DC bus for both the inverters of the open-end winding motor, common mode voltage has been eliminated completely to increase the lifetime of the bearings and reduce losses, caused by common mode current.
