Parallel interference cancellation (PIC) method is proposed for channel parameter estimation in the uplink of CDMA systems. Adaptive channel estimation filters are used to enhance the multiple-access interference (MAI) estimates, which are subtracted from the matched filter outputs before synchronization and data detection. The PIC method will be derived and numerical results for adaptive channel coefficient estimators and delay tracker in a fading channel will be presented. According to the results, the PIC method is well suited for delay tracking in multiuser CDMA receivers. 1. Introduction A great deal of the recent research on multiuser CDMA receivers addresses the problems of multipath fading. An optimal receiver requires joint estimation of unknown parameters. Especially when tracking the channel parameters, the multidimensional optimization problem can be approximated by KL separate problems. The other user parameters are assumed to be known when estimating the kth user's lth ...
