Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of some hydride-anions

The n.m.r. spectra of liquid ammonia solutions of salts of the anions X– are described and interpreted, where X–= OH–, SH–, SeH–, PH–2, AsH–2 and SbH–2. Proton exchange between X– and NH3 is very slow on an n.m.r. time scale, although it is rapid between X– and XH, NH+4 respectively.
