1 min readContamination of soil and groundwater sources by natural and anthropogenic activities may result in significant risks to human and environmental health. Thus, monitoring contaminated sources using efficient techniques is important to plan remediation techniques and to protect soil and groundwater. Numerous techniques have been used for the identification and quantification of contaminants in soil and groundwater. Novel and advanced identification and quantification techniques are important for productive outcomes. Furthermore, the data obtained using these techniques are used by decision-makers to identify, interpret, and initiate strategies to reduce soil and groundwater pollution, and to remediate already contaminated soil and water sources. In this chapter, new technologies have been presented to monitor contaminated soils and groundwater. Moreover, this paper discusses the applicability of these technologies at the field and laboratory levels, their advantages over the conventional methods, and their effectiveness in integrated approaches to remediation.
