MoSi bonds a reality? The silylene complex [Cp*(dmpe)(H)MoSi(Cl)Mes] (Cp*=η5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, dmpe=1,2-bis(dimethylphosphanyl)ethane, Mes=2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) reacts cleanly with LiB(C6F5)4 in fluorobenzene to give [{Cp*(dmpe)(H)MoSiMes}{B(C6F5)4}], the first structurally determined complex with significant metal silylyne (MSi) character (see picture). The possibility of a silicon–hydride interaction is discussed.
