Material Properties of Normal Strength Concrete with Polypropylene Fibers under Normal and High Temperatures

During recent years, Polypropylene fibers have been used to improve fire resistance of concrete. However, less attention was diverted to investigate their effect on concrete properties. This article represents the outcomes of an experimental investigation that has been performed at the Institute of Fire Safety Engineering Research and Technology (FireSERT, University of Ulster) to study the effect of using polypropylene fibers on the mechanical properties of concrete. The study involves the testing of more than 48 concrete specimens tested under ambient temperature and at elevated temperatures to determine the compressive strength, the tensile strength, and the density of concrete.
