IPMP: IP Based Active Measurement Protocol

The active measurement technology widely used today is mostly based on ICMP, TCP and UDP, which consequently results in the limitation of the relevant measurement tools. IPMP protocol is designed to provide underlying protocol support for various measurement mechanism. With router's assistance, it can accomplish the accurate measurement of network parameters such as one way delay and the bottleneck of link. The fundamentals of IPMP and the existent shortcomings are discussed in the article, with the improved scheme being presented.
