Two alkyne monomers were synthesized to study the effects of orientation of ester bridge on the properties of liquid crystalline polyalkynes. Analysis of the polymers by UV, DSC, POM, and XRD showed that with the increase in spacer length, the thermal stability of the polymers increase, their Tg and Ti decrease, and the packing arrangements in the mesophases change from bilayer to monolayer.
