Power MOSFETs in high voltage converters find their application for switching purposes. Power MOSFETs capacity to handle high power makes it suitable for power supply applications. Power MOSFETs fails mainly due to excess electrical stress induced across it which increases the failure rate thereby affecting the reliability of the system. Derating of power MOSFETs is therefore essential for increasing the operating life of the component and reducing the failure rate.In this paper, case study discussed on BFE MOSFETs used in aerospace TWTA application considering two configurations. Here the impact of Derating on the failure rate and operating hours of the component in these two cases are studied and suggested the right configuration for the TWTA. Selection of the configuration is done based on the outcome of reliability prediction and derating analysis.
