Cyclopentenoide Strukturen, darunter solche mit Vinyliodid-, 1,3-Dien- und heterocyclischen Einheiten, entstehen bei der Gold(I)-katalysierten 5-endo-dig-Addition von β-Dicarbonylverbindungen an nichtaktivierte Alkine unter neutralen Bedingungen und bei Raumtemperatur. Sowohl mono- als auch bicyclische Cyclopentene werden in ausgezeichneten Ausbeuten und mit guter Diastereoselektivität erhalten (siehe Schema).
