Summary statement This study reveals that GCN1 regulates chloroplast‐encoded protein synthesis by translationally controlling the nuclear gene RH39, which mediates post‐maturation processing of chloroplast 23S rRNA, thereby enabling Arabidopsis to adapt chloroplast translation to light‐dark cycles.
