Taking sociologist Pierre Bourdieu’s work as a reference, the present article offers a reconstitution of the genesis of the notion of habitus present in the author’s works and, in a synthetic perspective, seeks to document some of its major theoretical properties. It also draws a brief portrait of the main horizons of sociological mobilization such notion has been addressed with, emphasising that the notion of habitus , for Bourdieu, is a stenographic way of designating a research attitude adequate to the methodical observation of the social constitution of agents in several institutional settings.
