Different access techniques are considered for interconnection of TCP applications over optical packet/burst switched networks and evaluated in end-to-end perspective. The joint impact of MAC protocol and assembly procedure at the edge node is considered in hybrid networking scenario where Ethernet or wireless access networks feed an optical packet/burst link. The influence of the assembly timeout and environment characteristics is evaluated by ns-2 simulations. Results show how the assembly functions influence average throughput and TCP congestion window to obtain accurate design of inter-working of heterogeneous environment.
