Michael (Mike) Bevis was a real inspiration for anybody working in materials science. He started as a metallurgist, working in topics that included phase transformations, electron microscopy and deformation mechanisms. However, quite early in his career at the University of Liverpool, he began to move into what would become his most well known research activities. These were closely related to the recycling of polymers and especially to innovative approaches to the processing of polymers and composites.
