We report on fluorescence lifetime measurements in cylindrical microcavities. Er- and Nd-doped fibres were drawn to diameters down to 1 mu m and then coated with a metallic mirror. Fluorescence decay curves were recorded by time-resolved single-photon counting. Lifetime reductions of up to 45% were observed.
