The compound ASPO 4 was prepared from AS 2 O 3 and P 2 O 5 in a sealed tube at 673 K. The crystal structure, isostructural with AsO 2 , was refined to R = 0.021 [Pnma, a - 843.15(10), b = 502.29(10), c = 720.39(12) pm, Z = 4]. The structure consists of infinite layers. The arsenic(III) atoms are coordinated by three oxygen atoms at right angles; phosphorus(V) by four oxygens in the form of a distorted tetrahedron
