Au/Ag-Nanopartikellegierungen zeigen bei Anregung mit einem Nahinfrarot-Femtosekundenlaser (1290 nm) eine helle Drei-Photonen-Lumineszenz (linkes Bild) mit einer um eine Größenordnung höheren Intensität als reine Au- oder Ag-Nanopartikel. Weil die Anregung außerhalb des Plasmonenresonanzbereichs liegt, gelingt die biologische Bildgebung (rechts) ohne photothermische Schäden.
