Brief resumé of nonlinear elasticity theory

Abstract Those aspects of nonlinear elasticity theory that are central to the understanding of the elastic-plastic response of materials are surveyed in detail. These include restrictions on materal moduli and the concept of material symmetry forming the foundation for models of elastic-plastic response.
