Biomass-derived graphene-like carbon materials for supercapacitor applications

Supercapacitors are emerging energy storage devices. Graphene is an outstanding candidate for supercapacitor electrodes due to its large specific surface area, good electrical conductivity, and robust stability. However, the drawbacks are the high fabrication cost and complex synthesis process. Biomass-derived graphene-like carbon (BDGC) materials have been developed for advanced and economical electrode materials for supercapacitors by taking advantage of the adjustable porous structure and large natural resources. In this chapter, recent advances in BDGC are described by focusing on biomass and fabrication methods. Moreover, some critical issues and future directions of BDGCs are discussed. The objective is to provide guidance to future research and development of important materials for industrial applications.
