An underwater multiuser cooperative communication system based on minimum mean-square error decision feedback detection (MMSE-DFD) algorithm is proposed, where communication between two source nodes and one destination node is assumed. In this paper, underwater acoustic (UWA) channel is modeled as a sparse multipath channel experiencing Rayleigh fading. Compared with the traditional multiuser cooperative communication, the proposed communication system is able to increase the throughput of the communication system, when the half-duplex mode is assumed. Furthermore, computer simulations and analyses show that through the time diversity obtained by the cooperative system, the spatial diversity provided by the transducer array at the destination node and the MMSE-DFD algorithm, the proposed communication system exhibits better BER performance than the traditional cooperative system.
