Abstract

Growing evidence suggests that authenticity matters for organizational outcomes. Recent work highlights that perceptions of the firm’s authenticity, (i.e., its “realness” or “genuineness”), often influences the value that stakeholders receive from transacting with the firm and, ultimately, the performance of the firm. Yet, the field of strategy, which is principally concerned with understanding sources of heterogeneity in firm performance, has only recently begun to address the topic of authenticity. The purpose of this panel is to discuss opportunities for the integration of the topic of authenticity into strategy research. The panel includes scholars who have made foundational contributions to the study of both strategy and authenticity, as well as scholars who are actively working at the intersection of these areas.
