1 min readRESULTS Thediabetesremissionrate2yearsaftersurgerywas16.4%(95%CI,11.7%-22.2%; 34/207)forcontrolpatientsand72.3%(95%CI,66.9%-77.2%;219/303)forbariatricsurgery patients(oddsratio[OR],13.3;95%CI,8.5-20.7;P <. 001).At15years,thediabetesremission ratesdecreasedto6.5%(4/62)forcontrolpatientsandto30.4%(35/115)forbariatricsurgery patients(OR,6.3;95%CI,2.1-18.9;P <. 001).Withlong-termfollow-up,thecumulativeincidence ofmicrovascularcomplicationswas41.8per1000person-years(95%CI,35.3-49.5)forcontrol patientsand20.6per1000person-years(95%CI,17.0-24.9)inthesurgerygroup(hazardratio [HR],0.44;95%CI,0.34-0.56;P <. 001).Macrovascularcomplicationswereobservedin44.2 per1000person-years(95%CI,37.5-52.1)incontrolpatientsand31.7per1000person-years (95%CI,27.0-37.2)forthesurgicalgroup(HR,0.68;95%CI,0.54-0.85;P =. 001).
