The resonance recently observed by Fernandez-Alonso et al. at a total energy of 1.83 eV for H ´ qD2 Ž . nsjs0 ⢠Ž X X HD n s3, j s0.qD is analyzed in terms of a locally vibrationally adiabatic model. The resonance is assigned as a n s3, n s0 vibrational state of a DâDH complex with total angular momentum quantum numbers of about 20, and it is 1 2 associated with a vibrationally adiabatic barrier at a DâD distance of 2.9 to 3.1 a . The assignment explains the preferential 0 decay into the n X s3, j X s0 state of HD. q 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
