This study aims to identify key research trends and thematic structures in studies on picture books for infants in South Korea through keyword network analysis. A total of 219 papers, including 132 theses and 87 journal articles published from August 2000 to September 2024, were analyzed. Frequency analysis, centrality analysis, network visualization, and modularity analysis were conducted on refined keywords. High-frequency keywords included ‘picture books with text,’ ‘picture book reading,’ ‘vocabulary development,’ ‘social-emotional development,’ and ‘communication skills.’ Major thematic substructures included holistic development, support for educational programs, and the formation of social relationships. ‘Vocabulary development’ and ‘communication skills’ emerged as central nodes with high connectivity. In contrast, keywords such as ‘dramatic play,’ ‘multicultural families,’ and ‘extended picture book activities’ appeared as isolated nodes. These findings suggest the need for more diverse and culturally inclusive educational practices using picture books. The study highlights the role of picture books in supporting holistic development and provides foundational insights for the development of early childhood education programs.
