A study of the half-bridge converter to achieve zero voltage switching at turn-on is presented. The asymmetrical pulse-width modulation technique is used in the converter to regulate the output voltage and improve the duty cycle utilization. The analysis is presented for the switch stress, output filter components and rectifier diodes. The principle operation based on the mathematical analysis is also provided. The design consideration of the asymmetrical half-bridge converter is discussed. Finally the experimental results are provided to verify the zero voltage switching at turn-on.
