Abstract
1 min readThe richness of reliability methods are conditioned by the probability models used to represent the strengths variability and the loads randomness. In dam field, evaluation of these probability results particularly delicate because of the limited number of experimental tests for the strength parameters of materials and the relatively short period of observation of natural events such as floods, earthquakes. The aim of this communication is to develop a reliability- based analysis method for structural stability of gravity dams. The stochastic model SHYPRE for the generation of floods events is used to the probabilistic assessment of hydrostatic loads. Concerning strengths, the probabilistic modelling of strengths is carried out by a technique of data aggregation and by a physical formulation proposed for the intrinsic curve of concrete. Cracking and shearing limit-states are analyzed by means of the First Order Reliability Method FORM and by a Monte Carlo Simulation. The procedure is illustrated on the example of a RCC dam.
