Despite the growth of entrepreneurship research, theory development has remained a key concern, with some scholars arguing that much of the research is atheoertical or that theory building is ad hoc. The goal of this Symposium is to shed light on how to advance theory development in entrepreneurship. It seeks to address three broad questions. First, given the pre-paradigmatic stage of theory development in entrepreneurship, how do we extend and refine current theories to enhance our understanding of entrepreneurship? Second, how do we use various approaches to develop new ideas or theories? Third, how do we learn from accomplished scholars?
