A shunt active power filter with neutral point switch clamped inverter is presented to eliminate nonlinear harmonic currents. The adopted neutral point switch clamped inverter is composed of two power switches and one AC power semiconductor. The voltage stress of the AC power switch is equal to half of the DC bus voltage. A neutral point voltage compensator and a variable structure control are employed in the proposed control scheme to perform neutral point voltage balance and harmonic current elimination, respectively. The proposed control scheme was verified by the computer simulations.
