Je kleiner, desto besser: Mithilfe von In-situ-Röntgenphotoelektronenspektroskopie mit Synchrotronstrahlung unter Umgebungsdruck gelang es, den Oxidationszustand der Oberfläche von Rhodium-Nanopartikeln (NPs) während der CO-Oxidation unter O2 zu bestimmen. 2 nm große NPs oxidieren bei 150–200 °C stärker als 7 nm große NPs und zeigen eine fünffach höhere Umsatzfrequenz.
